Brett Favre, the extraordinary quarterback and complete the media/drama queen asked to be traded to the New York Jets on Sunday because he felt it would get him the most media outlet.
"I was originally complaining and moaning to be handed off to the Vikings, but I decided to call an audible and the Green Bay managers hail mary'ed me to New York" says Favre. "I figured that if I was traded to the Vikings I would still only appear on the NFL blogs. I can't stand not being exposed everywhere and chose an AFC team so that I could get more extensive coverage on ESPN and dominate both the AFC/NFC blogs online. One certainly isn't enough"
Mike McCarthy reports being very supportive of Favre throughout the entire process. "I remember telling him, 'Favre, I respect what you've done for the organization and it's a human thing to change your mind. We love you and we'd love to have you come back for one more year to train Aaron Rodgers and make an impact on our team. We really could be super bowl contenders."
Favre wouldn't hear any of that, analysts say. He was a complete jerk and difficult to work with every step of the way. He refused to succumb to greed and stubbornly asked to play on a team that he was the ringleader of and brought to prominence after a drought in Green Bay. He only wanted to be on the television and make a mess of things, no matter how easy Mike McCarthy tried to make the situation and smoothen it.
But Favre got his wish for media, publicity, and being uprooted from his adoring fans and city. The only question remains, will Favre still bring Seahawks fans to tears as a Jet?
